Brief Update

Last night in the studio I:

1. Trimmed a big plate.
2. Trimmed four (4) little white bowls.
3. Threw some more little white vases.
4. Cleaned up after myself.
5. Took pictures of the vases.
6. Ignored a shelf of bisque that I probably ought to glaze.

Here's the pictures.

The clay was less impressive than earlier this week, but still fun to throw.  I'll be pursuing this more next week, or this weekend.

Throwing, Decorating, and New Clay.

Some studio updates - several days' worth, and some weekend, but I've been a little under the weather, so this is me trying to catch up all at once.

I've been able to get some solid throwing time in the last few days which has been nice - throwing, trimming, recycling of clay, etc. All-around studio time that has been very helpful in catching up on some things. Here's a whole table of progress:

So, you can see I've got some decently sized bowls in the works, and some large plates/platters(chargers?), and a couple test plates to try out some different glazing options for plates. We'll just have to wait and see what happens there.

Boring Bowls...

Here's a picture of a couple of the boring bowls I've been working on, because it's all that was left uncovered in the studio by the time I remembered to bust out the camera.
In my defense, I didn't have the camera out because I was making an extreme mess dealing with some large platters that, I'm hoping, will turn out in a positive manner.  Because that would be nice.  Maybe I'll take some pictures of those the next time I'm in the studio.  If I remember.

Unlikely.

But seriously, the plates took some time, plus my normal throwing time was interrupted by a meeting regarding the NCPG Fall Show & Sale which will be November 13-15, 2009.  More on that later, specifically once the ad materials are ready.  But it would not be unfair to say that it's a really fun event.  Plenty of pottery, live music, food (not live - unless we're serving yogurt this year) and drink (generally regarded as not live).  So, more on that later, as I have a couple of fall events coming up.

Back to the plates - they better turn out nicely because they are otherwise a waste of space on my shelves.  Large footprint, low volume.  On the flip side, once they're finished they pack quite nicely, so maybe that's the trade-off.  That's all for now.  Have a great weekend, and check out The Elms!

Week(end) in Review & The Elms

I was back in the studio this weekend, and I have yet again failed to take pictures of the boring things I've been working on. I've been working on replenishing stock for some upcoming fall shows, and that includes adding a little bit more diversity to my current body of work. As such, I'm working on a number of bowls that will see no slip and no sgraffito - though some basic relief carving will be in order. This adds up to more glazing for me, but I think I should be able to handle it.

But I guess the real news from the studio was the batch of new work fresh out of a glaze fire...

Actually, not much to report...

After all the hype about posting a "Week(s) in Review" I realized I actually have been pretty pathetic at shooting my studio progress over the last couple weeks.  So, while I have been throwing, trimming, and decorating a plethora of bowls and plates, I've either posted them, or failed to get the camera out.

Also, blogger has a new feature which allows one to display a blurb (see above) of a post, while hiding the majority of the body behind a link or, as they say on the interwebs, a "jump break."  So, follow the "jump" to read more from this post.

I've been Reading, not Writing.

Well, it's been a couple weeks, and while I have been in the studio several times, I have failed to keep my loyal readership (and visitors!) in the loop. Mostly because I usually post during my lunch breaks and lately I've had better things to do during my lunch, namely good books.

So, for something completely unrelated to pottery, and to tide you over until I post a decent "Week(s) in Review" here's what I've been reading lately:
